A unique place dedicated to the olive tree and its heritage.
The Olive Tree Ecomuseum, housed in a former lime factory in the heart of Provence, invites you to explore the fascinating world of this emblematic tree. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, history buff, or gastronomy lover, this place will reveal all the secrets of the olive tree.
An immersion into the millennial history of the olive tree: its mythological roots, cultural significance, and role in the Provençal landscapes. A presentation of artisanal know-how: from the cultivation of olive trees to the production of olive oil. Exhibitions that highlight the traditions related to the olive tree.

A place dedicated to the history, culture, and traditions of the olive tree, a mythical tree.
In Provence, olive trees thrive on lands rich in traditions and biodiversity. A symbol of peace and prosperity, this millennial tree embodies the soul of the region.
Each olive tree tells a story: that of the men and women who, over the centuries, have cultivated these lands and preserved a unique know-how. It is this harmony between man, nature, and tradition that the Olive Tree Ecomuseum honors.

On the big screen, harvesters from Provence, Spain, Greece, and even Lebanon gather their fruits and take them to the mill.
Once the film is over, stroll among the display cases whose objects evoke the past and present culture of the mythical tree. Or simply sit on a bench and listen to the music of the words inspired by the tree, the stories of travelers and poets.

In the Mediterranean, olive and almond trees have coexisted for centuries, sharing the same land and shaping, under the patient hands of farmers, landscapes of balance and beauty.
Their roots are anchored in a soil nourished by the effort and passion of men, guardians of an ancestral knowledge. Each tree, sculpted by time and labor, tells a story of resilience, tradition and gestures handed down from generation to generation.

The aperitif almond workshop.
In the Mediterranean, olive and almond trees have coexisted for centuries, shaped by the patient work of farmers and craftsmen.
Their roots plunge into a rich terroir, nourished by expertise and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
In celebration of this alliance, the Olive Tree Ecomuseum hosts a workshop where almonds, made using the turbinage technique, become delicious handcrafted creations. With Provençal herbs or fleur de sel, they embody the Provençal aperitif. The workshop is open to the public.

In co-construction with the association "Les Nuits Photographiques" and the commune of Volx, the Olive Tree Ecomuseum, with its rich local history, wishes to pay tribute to the people who have contributed to the soul of this emblematic site, which has lived through several lives: lime kiln, first L'Occitane en Provence factory, and today an ecomuseum dedicated to the olive tree and almond-making workshop.
